A lot of Aswan’s beauty and wealth come from the kindness of its people and the Nile, the river that gives the city its name.

In this beautiful city, tourists can visit a nearby Nubian village, talk to the people who live there, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Nile.

Going to the Aswan Nubian Village will have a great time and learn a lot about Nubian customs, food, and clothing.

The easiest and quickest way to get from Aswan’s main tourist attraction to the Nubian Village on Soheil Island, which is on the west bank of the Nile, is to take a motorboat from the small pier in Aswan.

Even if you don’t plan to see any of Aswan’s sights, taking a speedboat or felucca ride on the Nile is fun and lets you enjoy the city’s pleasant river breezes.

You could either drive yourself or take a taxi to get to the village.

Directions:

From Aswan Center, felucca rides take less than ten minutes, but from Luxor and Cairo, they take three and one hour, respectively.

As you get closer to the neighborhood, you’ll see many mud-brick homes typical of Nubia. Bricks like these are made with clay, water, hay, and sand, among other things.

These materials are cheaper and safer to use around the house because they are made from natural materials and don’t spread diseases.

When it’s hot, it’s less likely that the clay used to make bricks will change.

Every house has a dome-shaped ceiling because it helps the heat from the sun reach more parts of the house.

Also, Nubians like to decorate the inside of their homes with soft colors that are still nice to look at. On the walls of their homes, you may also see paintings or prints of things like boats, camels, and palm fronds that are important to their culture.

You can count on friendly conversation and a warm welcome when you go to a Nubian’s house.

By “Nubians,” we mean people who can be easily recognized from a distance because of their dark skin and unique language. The Arabic language and culture have nothing to do with these two things.

One of the most exciting things about the Nubian language is that most people who don’t speak it as their first language don’t learn to teach it.

Ancient Egyptians saw how good the Nubians were with bows and arrows, so they called them the “bow land,” which is what Nubia means. “Ta-Seti” means “land of the bow” when translated literally, but this is just a short form of the name. How many solid Nubian kings were in battle depended on how well they could shoot a bow.

Warriors were often put to rest with armor and arrow quivers still in their hands.

Histories say that the Nubians, also called Kush, made huge gold fortunes while running a prosperous kingdom along the Nile in southern Egypt and northern Sudan. We can figure this out because Nubians used to be called Kush.

The peaceful and humble Nubians live in homes that show what their culture is like.

Having a crocodile as a pet might seem crazy, but these animals are happy in their cages and don’t hurt people.

Both mummified and fresh, recently killed crocodiles are prominently displayed in Nubian homes, but mummified crocodiles are given more respect.

Crocodiles have always been important to the Nubian people because ancient Egyptians thought they could protect a home from the “Evil Eye.”

Chickens and goats, which are both common farm animals, are also good choices.

Ancient Egyptians called this area “Ta-Seti,” which means “bow country,” because of this. How many solid Nubian kings were in battle depended on how well they could shoot a bow.

Since this was a common practice in ancient societies, warriors’ weapons and armor were often buried with them when they died.

The famous Egyptian singer Mohamed Mounir used to live in a mansion, now open to the public. He grew up in Nuba, a nearby Nubian town.

The Nubian language was used to write most of the Mounir, sometimes called royal songs.
