History:

Lake Qaroun (Birket Qaroun) in Egypt is probably the most striking mix of water and desert in the country, besides the Suez Canal, where tankers move between the sandbanks. Lake Qaroun is also called Birket Qaroun, which is not as common as its main name, and Lake Qaroun is also known by the name Birket Qaroun.

The lake has fishing boats, and the vast Western Desert is in the background. On all sides, there are empty hills.

The locals call this body of water “El-Birka,” which means “The Pond” loosely. El-Birka is also the name of a second town in the area. Maybe the name comes from a horn-shaped peak on an island in the middle of the lake. Some people think the lake was named after a rich person in the Koran who was punished for being too proud by having the earth close in and swallow him up. But the Fayoumis, who live near the lake, have a different opinion. Many people think that the lake was named after him because of this.

People from the surrounding area swim in the lake and cool off from the hot weather all year. But because storms are more likely to happen from January to April, swimming during those months is not a good idea. This is a suggestion for the whole month of January and all of February, March, and April.
