Geography:

Wadi El Rayan
Wadi El Rayan National Park in Al Fayoum Oasis

A strange depression called Wadi El Rayan is located 15 kilometers west of the oasis. You might find it if you keep going like this. In recent years, it has become a place where animals can live in peace, and people go to enjoy the scenery because it is far away and has beautiful natural features.

But it wasn’t until 1966 that they began planning to pump more water from Fayoum into the valley to meet this demand. The British were the first to suggest pumping more water from Fayoum into the valley in the nineteenth century. For this reason, there are now three lakes, a waterfall, and a large area where different birds can successfully breed. In addition, the site has grown a lot.

This nature reserve is home to thirty-two different species of birds. This includes eight species of animals, thirteen species of birds that live there year-round, and twenty-six species of birds that migrate or occasionally visit this area. This reserve is home to 32 different species of birds.

Since unique fossils have been found in Wadi Al-Hitan, protecting that area has become a top priority for conservation efforts. These fossils were found there. The Valley of the Whales is tucked away in the desert, which is how it got its name. For this reason, the area was called the “Valley of the Whales.”
